I’m on my second receiver from Onkyo, really enjoyed them both. Support has been outstanding, very quick response times with willingness to help.

I’ve had this receiver for two years now and I honestly LOVE IT. I have it set up for my 7.4.4 system (daisy chain subs for extra 2). My Atmos speakers are full range height, not upward firing (the upwards sounded mushy), and not directly overhead because I just didn’t want to do a complicated run. My rears are sent out through the pre amp outs (not amplified) and into a fiber transmitter then to the receiver and amplified with noisy small amps that do the job very well, although a tad noisy. So technically, I’m only driving a total of 7 speakers with the amp. I have a 4,700ft3 foot open room and the THX Select2 certification is good but with enough subs. Speakers are all Cerwin Vegas – fronts: SL-12, center – SL 45c, surrounds: RE-16, height: HT-S5, subs: LW-12, LW-12, LW-10, SL-10.
My only complaint is the AccuEQ software. Turn that off, no joke. It makes the sound of my speakers so meek and disgusting. I also turn off standing wave, the crossovers I set manually, distance is set manually, and the EQ in the quick menu is turned off. For something this expensive, I’d assume buyers will be using a SPL meter and software for fine tuning. Absolutely zero need for AccuEQ at this price point.
Best Listening Modes:
Movies:
1. Dolby Atmos from Atmos sources (Most streaming services with Atmos do it well and the best mix if available)
2. THX Select2 Cinema from anything 5.1 (Yes, from DD 5.1 source, it has much better audio surround levels, night and day better)
3. DD+
4. DD Surround
5. DTX Neural X ( I don’t like either matrix sounds DD Surround or this because neither are close to Atmos)
6. whatever else falls in here
Music: All Channel Stereo.
This thing really rocks. I can’t turn it up all the way because it will get too loud.. I can easily hit theater 105-115db levels.
This gets used almost everyday to put out theater level sound. I love this thing. Wish it was Ultra 2 certified, but it is doing the job well. The remote is weak, but those are just extras not the meat and potatoes. Also get a AVR fan like I have above mine. That will save on major heat. My unit is so cool all the time.
Amazing buy.

I love onkyo, i own the NR797 but i wish i could afford their flagship as i can imagine how powerful it would be compare to mine. I love the sound their recivers produce, powerful ,clear and accurate. Excellent craftsmanship 🤗
