Very nice…using Polk Audio main, center and surround speakers. Nice power and a SVS subwoofer picks up the loss that shake the room. Hasn’t failed me yet. Brings me back to my first Onkyo receiver the gold old 929…

Nice entry level surround system with many features. Seems to be designed for a soundbar or 3.2 system. When set up for 3.2 both the surround sound and tuner sound great. Set up for 5.2 surround adjustment are needed for the back speakers when switching from surround to tuner. Zone B pre out works well when using my old receiver as an amp however when using both A and B zones together the A zone speaker volume drops. Also the B zone output is weak causing me to turn up my old receiver to 50% to get the same volume of sound I would get at 30% without using the zone B input. The tx-sr393 has plenty of adjustments to fine tune your sound and I am very pleased with the sound quality and volume output.
Pros: Price and excellent 5.2 surround sound
Cons: Adjusting rear speakers when listening to music in all stereo mode.

Perfect pairing for a new 4K UHD system. This unit replaced a 27 yr old Sony Dolby Surround 5.1 receiver. I compared this TX-SR393 to 2 other major brands and this was the only one that has actual volume settings for EACH channel. Movie dialog can be a problem with surround sound. This unit allows full control to raise the center channel and tamp down the front channel. Initial setup via the HDMI is easy. If you use optical link, the front unit display is adequate for settings. Then you can walk through the various settings to adjust to your room — I’m a recording engineer and like to do this manually (it does have the auto-sensing mic). This is the only unit of the 3 I reviewed that has quick treble, dialog and bass touch controls on the front of the unit AND on the remote!
The other 2 competitors were far too complicated. After spending a lifetime reading tech manuals, I didn’t want to do that to watch a movie in 5.1. I’m running Polk Audio 8″ 2-way bookshelves in front and ceiling mounted JBL satellites for center and rear rolled off <200Hz. No sub-woof mud machine. The Polks have plenty of boom. Our living room is very large and this unit runs about 50%-65% volume for movie viewing. Plenty of headroom. If you're a purist, there is a "Direct" setting that bypasses all of the enhancements to pass signals "as produced" when in good ol' 2ch Stereo mode for your turntable or CD player (no internal TT preamp). Best bang for the buck.

I love it . The sounds and setup is awesome. Make sure you fine tune your crossover settings and speaker level s on your surround speakers to get the best sound. Took me about two hours to fine tune everything from. Music to movie and it is awesome. For 279 dollars this model rocks. If you really want a great sound make sure to buy medium side surround , center and front speakers . I have klipsch speakers all the way around including self powered subwoofer. It is awesome you will not be disappointed.
